Successful forum on climate change and rural landscapes

Successful forum on climate change and rural landscapes

On November 28, the NRCL ran a forum on the Impact of climate change on rural landscapes  at Narmbool, near Ballarat.

Seventy representatives from a cross section of community organisations and government were in attendance.

The forum covered climate trends, modelling the impacts of climate change, agricultural impacts, applying Indigenous knowledge to climate change adaptation and the response of local government to climate change.

Round table discussions on how to build greater community engagement and collaboration around action on climate change stimulated lively debate.

The NRCL hopes that the day will promote some exciting projects and it looks forward to building on the links established on the day.

The NRCL would like to thank all the presenters who gave their time to provide a thought provoking day.

A number of presenters have kindly agreed to make their presentations accessible:

VALE MIKE HILL

The NRCL Board is deeply saddened by the death of its Chair, Mike Hill.

Mike was a Director of the NRCL from 2003 and its Chair since 2010.

He was an exceptionally inspirational and visionary leader who was passionate about conservation and sustainability.

Mike played a pivotal role in the reinvigoration of this organisation working tirelessly to build on the substantial legacy of the NRCL whilst repositioning it to be relevant to contemporary issues such as sustainability and biodiversity.

He devoted considerable time and effort into the future of the NRCL’s property at Cranbourne West, leading the Board in its deliberations about how a vision of a sustainable outer urban community might be realised at the site.

Mike gave of his time to all who asked for assistance. He was widely respected across many sectors as was always evidenced by his ability to know of the right contact for any particular problem. We will all miss his updates on his beloved Melbourne Footy Club and how each year was to be the one when things turned around!

The Directors and CEO, Dr. Anthony Hooper pass on their deepest sympathies to Mike’s partner, Lorna and family.
