The NRCL Board is deeply saddened by the death of its Chair, Mike Hill.

Mike was a Director of the NRCL from 2003 and its Chair since 2010.

He was an exceptionally inspirational and visionary leader who was passionate about conservation and sustainability.

Mike played a pivotal role in the reinvigoration of this organisation working tirelessly to build on the substantial legacy of the NRCL whilst repositioning it to be relevant to contemporary issues such as sustainability and biodiversity.

He devoted considerable time and effort into the future of the NRCL’s property at Cranbourne West, leading the Board in its deliberations about how a vision of a sustainable outer urban community might be realised at the site.

Mike gave of his time to all who asked for assistance. He was widely respected across many sectors as was always evidenced by his ability to know of the right contact for any particular problem. We will all miss his updates on his beloved Melbourne Footy Club and how each year was to be the one when things turned around!

The Directors and CEO, Dr. Anthony Hooper pass on their deepest sympathies to Mike’s partner, Lorna and family.

  1. Mike was a pioneer in the Australian One Planet Living community and member of the Bioregional international expert panel. He has had a long career in supporting communities, in Australia and has lived the vision of a world in which people enjoy happy, healthy lives within their fair share of the earth’s resources.
